Fight a Tiger fish or calmly dip a line in teeming waters

All the lodges offer the opportunity to throw a line into the clear waters of the Okavango and to test one’s skill at fishing. Nxamaseri Island Lodge prides itself on being the premier fly fishing destination in Botswana. It is featured in several specialist books including “Fly fishing in Southern Africa”, “The Longest Cast” and “A Fishing Safari in Africa”. In fact, when Nxamaseri Island Lodge was first built in the 1980’s it was the first lodge in Botswana to pioneer fly fishing.

Nxamaseri Island Lodge

Nxamaseri Island Lodge offers fishing options year round due to its location in the permanent waters of the Okavango Delta pan-handle. Both Mokolwane Film Camp and Kujwana Delta Camp are able to provide fishing in the right season when water levels are right.

Lure Fishing

Nxamaseri Island Lodge is a prime destination for lure fishing from March – December. Tiger fish are indigenous to the area and, as one of the world’s most dramatic freshwater game fish, it provides thrilling angling for both experienced and novice fishermen.

In addition to Tiger fish, up to eight other species are generally caught on line, creating eventful and memorable fishing. Our lodges have boats made for fishing and carry all the necessary equipment. Nxamaseri offers a specialised fishing package and a barbel run fishing package. Enquire at reservations for further details.

Fly Fishing:

The prize catch at Nxamaseri is the tiger fish but this is only one of eight separate species in the area. The optimum time to fish for tiger fish is during the annual cat fish (barbel) runs, as the water level is low and the fish are concentrated in the permanent channels. The exact time of these runs differs from year to year but generally lasts from early September to end October. During March through to August, although there are no cat fish runs, bream and tiger fish are prevalent and these are still good months for fly fishing, We have specialist fly-fishing guides available. This service must be requested in advance upon making the reservation. Special arrangements at an additional charge can be made for additional private boats for fly-fishing, if required. The lodges carry standard lure fishing equipment but for fly-fishing we suggest guests bring their own equipment. Flies are available for purchase at the lodge on request.
